How To Use Wiki

All you really need to know is:

That's it.

Linking pages together

Well, that's it for one page. But you probably want to link to other pages too.

To create hyperlinks to other pages within the wiki site, capitalize the words and string them together. Let's say you want to create a page about how Steve Wainstead eats worms. All you have to do is capitalize each word and string them together like this: ??Steve Wainstead Eats Worms. If the page does not exist yet a question mark appears by the link, inviting you to create the page: ??This Page Should Not Exist. (And please don't ruin the example by creating one.)

To link to pages outside the Wiki, you can just type in the URL/web address (or copy and paste it from the Location field in your web browser) and Wiki will link it for you: http://www.nytimes.com/

Adding images

To add images to your page, just enter the URL in brackets like this: [http://www.somewebsite.com/picture.jpg]. Image URLs not in brackets will just appear as hyperlinks to the image.

(Users of Internet Explorer for Windows can right-click an image, select properties and copy the URL to the clipboard, then paste it into a wiki page).

Formatting your text

Of course, if you want to get clever you can add formatting to your text:

 this is a poem
 about monospacing
 nothing rhymes with poem
 nothing rhymes with monospacing

I am a paragraph.

I am a paragraph too. We're just very small paragraphs.

Remember: A Wiki Wiki Web is meant to be fast and easy to edit, and your raw pages should look almost like normal text with a few extra characters here and there. Simplicity and clarity are the primary goals. For a complete guide to wiki markup see Text Formatting Rules.

If you were wondering, Wiki wiki means "quick" in Hawai'ian.

If you don't like the size of the text editing window you get, you can change it. See User Preferences.

Now you are ready to begin Adding Pages.
