Carnival is a new style of mission we're bringing to Leeds in October 2004. Hundreds of Christians from all across the UK will come for four days of community outreach, getting along-side local churches and helping them in their ongoing mission programmes. Churches are being grouped together geographically and working as clusters, planning what shape the mission will take in their particular community. Teams of volunteers will then be sent to serve in each cluster during the mission week, working alongside local volunteers to show the love of God in practical ways to people in anything from street cleaning and ironing to building community skate parks and gardens.
Projects will be determined by local people who know the area, and therefore best know the needs of a particular community. Christian teams will then come in to meet that need during an intense week of mission! Carnival will be a fully ecumenical mission, with Anglican, Methodist, Catholic, Salvation Army, Vineyard,URC, Baptist and independent churches!
At the moment 12 clusters are actively meeting across the city, with 3 more hoping to join in by September. In Burley plans so far include a Holiday Club and street cleaning along with prayer walking.
Churches involved: Burley Methodist, Word of Life, Revive, St Matthias.
