World Cup England Argentina

The superlatives have already been expressed elsewhere, far better than I could hope to, for England's display against our long-standing South American rivals on 7 June 2002.

Supporting England this World Cup campaign has been a relationship that blows hot and cold - unimpressive and disappointing result against Sweden in the first game; staggeringly effective performance against Argentina, and unbelievably tense, nail-biting final group game against Nigeria ... with the tension and adrenaline this high, what will it be like if England get a penalty shoot-out against the Germans in the final??!

The quality of England's footbal against Argentina suggest that they can, on their day, beat anyone (Brazil in the quarters anyone?), and go all the way. Their tendency, however, of playing at a level that is less than their potential, against the less fancied sides, (look at the surprises that sides such as Sweden, Denmark, and Senegal have produced this World Cup), means that any further progress by England is going to be a seriously rollercoaster ride for even the most ambivalent of football fans!
