Soul Survivor 2003

Soul Survivor - The Inside Story

by Jack Popplewell

For those of you who don't know, Soul Survivor is a huge 15-day Christian music festival, held at Shepton Mallet in Somerset. The six members of our Blaze Youth Cell took five adults with them for Week B, 16th to 20th August 2003

Musical Youth

There are plenty of activities every day. These include worship songs in the Main Tent with Matt Redman, Tim Hughes (we have sung some of their songs in church) and plenty of other big names.

There were seminars by Bishop Graham Cray and other wise people, these covered varying topics such as "Going deeper with God", to "Getting Free" and lots more.

This year it was as good as ever and had something for everyone. There was more people then ever going with a record 11,600 people on camp - this does not include day visitors!

There was a constant high with people praising God in hundreds of ways.

Getting to Know You

We met loads of people from churches around Leeds that we knew. So we could always go and borrow an extra tea bag.

We also made friends with people from all over England and have made promises to keep in touch.

There was a great atmosphere there, and it was great being able to chat to other Christians that are in the same situation as you are. It made me personnally realise that we as Christians are all over the world and not just 1 church congregation.

Frosty the Snowman

Although some of us were affected by the cool temperatures, the weather was very good and only rained once.

You can see from some of the pictures that the camping conditions weren't brilliant - but with John Kershaw's mansion of a tent we managed and had a great time.

Waking up to the sun was a definite boost to the morale after sleeping in a squashed tent all night!

Beautiful One

Thank you to all those people that prayed for the "conditions of the toilets" they had much improved since last year and were even useable - although hot water was a bit of a luxury. Another big THANKS to all those that drove the 6 tiring hours down there and back, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you.
It was another life changing event for some people that went, with over 400 conversion over the 5 days. The ministry also was quite breath taking and God was certainly working wonders there.

I won't forget it in a long time, and have learnt alot from it. It is an experience you don't want to miss. I will be hopefully going next year and can't recommend it enough.
