Geoff TetleyI lived in Greenhow Crescent from when I was born (1937) until I got married (1958). My association with St. Matthias was mainly through the scout troupe (15th. NW Leeds). I remember we had regular church parades from Burley National School to the church. The troupe used to fill the whole North transept and the scout leaders served as lectors. The service was always Morning Prayer. I tried out for the choir, but didn't make it. The vicar asked for volunteers to learn change ringing. I was really excited about it, learning to handle the bells, the math of the changes and using the hand bells for the initial lessons. When grandfather Tetley learned about it (he lived on Wolsley Grove, about 100 yards from the church) that was the end of my bell ringing career. I am now a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada in the diocese of Mississippi. We have a web site too: http://www.allsaintsgrenada.org Maybe as part of your 150th. celebrations you could ask all the folk like me who are scattered around the globe to give thanks for St. Matthias, Burley as part of the Prayers of the People during the month of the anniversary?
